The ski holiday prep I never knew I needed…
I’m just back from my first ski holiday in 4 years (more on where we stayed here). My first ski holiday since Nordic Walking came into my life. My husband and I had an ongoing joke about how much better I would be than him on the slopes this year because of how much more active I am now than I used to be. Just to be clear - we have a 20 year running joke about how I’m the best skier in the relationship after being on my first skis at 3.5 years old. Nevertheless, I genuinely think he was apprehensive - all thanks to Nordic Walking. So did it make a difference?
In a word; YES!
For those of you new to Nordic Walking, it actually originated from skiing - cross county skiing in fact - as a way to train when there wasn’t any snow. It was possibly the original draw I had to it (see my blog on it here) . There is no doubt that my thigh strength and 3 day ache mid week during the holiday was much less than before. But the huge impact was polling.
Hitting the flat after the Truite run between Meribel-Mottaret and Meribel-Centre to get to the Rhodes lift was a breeze. Likewise - when you can’t wait for that coffee stop like the one at the base of Mont Vallon after the Lac de la chambre blue run. What you don’t want at that point is to stop moving half way to the cafe and need to take your skis off. I can honestly say I left the others for dust!
All jokes aside, what’s become apparent to me as a holidaying skier is my want for all year movement. Something that ticks that ‘ski’ box when there’s no snow or holiday in sight. Nordic Walking - thanks for coming into my life. It’s here to stay. Will it make an appearance in yours?
If you have landed on my blog and are not near West Wales where I run my classes- you can find local British Nordic Walking instructors here. If you have any corporate booking enquiries please do email me on nordicymru@outlook.com as I do run these in various locations.
