THAT Ski feeling… without the ski
Leaving ‘work’ today I felt it.
That feeling after being out on the slopes all day, cold but energised.
Having been fortunate to go on regular ski holidays throughout my life - it was more part of me than I realised. Until the pandemic.
Funny how you realise things once they are no longer there.
Annual ski holidays were the norm. We worked hard, saved hard… then spent most of it on a week away on the slopes every winter. Then all that stopped when COVID put a stop to travel as we knew it.
COVID for lots of reasons led me to Nordic Walking (you can read more about that here) . However I am under no doubt that Skiing was a huge factor. How else do you explain a 40ish year old, one of the least sporty people in the family may I add, ending up running her own physical activity business?
It’s affectionally known in my family that the only sport I am (was!) any good at is skiing.
Realising that I needed to be more active - for the sake of both my physical and mental health, I was drawn to Nordic Walking with it’s origins from cross-country skiers in Finland.
Now as a British Nordic Walking instructor, I get to spend all day outside (well two days of the week anyway…it doesn’t fully pay the bills yet!) and I love it!
Getting wrapped up on a winter morning then feeling the energy during the day and the warmth of a hot shower flowing over my tingly cold skin after being outdoors for hours. It’s just like a ski day. I just need to work on the apes ski now. It currently consists of the school run. A little different to a vin chaud on the slopes!
